“I’m interested in making art that deals with childhood, masculinity, narrative and relationships. My project “Ice Cream Truck gave me valuable experience in working on a large-scale project with multiple people. I learned how to draw on the skill sets of others.”

Ice Cream Truck was a project that stretched out over the course of a little less than a year, beginning in March of 2019 and lasting into January of 2020. I envisioned building a life-size ice cream truck structure with an imagined interior, open for the public to walk through. Thanks to funds from BYU’s Department of Art, I was able to complete the project. It included extensive research about sourcing materials, such as OmniBond, an aluminum/plastic composite, and barn wood. The project would have been impossible without leaning heavily on the knowledge and skill sets of others. Working on this project taught me how to manage a team and taught me about the drafting process for big projects. I plan to turn to others’ experience and skillset a little earlier in the future to complete difficult, large-scale projects. I’ve learned that no project is too big when you have people who can help you, and I plan on completing similar projects in the future.
